great purchase

I love this watch. I have a loop and it wasn’t syncing or recording my heart rate well, plus it needed to be charged every day and that was getting annoying. I love that it vibrates to wake you up and when you hit goal. I love that I see my heart rate the entire time I work out so that I can push myself harder if I need to. I have had it for a week and a half and haven’t had to charge it. The other review says it syncs on its own- mine doesn’t. And it works fine with my iPhone. The buttons don’t push accidentally either and it’s a little high to wear but I got used to that quickly. Great purchase

I LOVE THIS HEART RATE MONITOR! (Weightlifter Review)

By Denisse on March 23, 2015

UPDATE: After the first time having to re-charge it, I still love it! It pairs so well with myfitnesspal that I’m finally using the food-tracking app. This watch makes it too easy to compete with yourself! I love it! If you’re debating between this one and the new fitbit, don’t joke yourself. The fitbit just doesn’t compare. It’s highly inaccurate. Polar is the real deal.

It really gets me motivated to keep moving. I would recommend this to anyone who is already an “exerciser,” as it is great motivation to push yourself. (It definitely has been for me!) I lift weights and need the extra motivation to push myself, since I can get pretty comfortable with my routine. This did the trick. I find myself taking shorter breaks between sets. And although I’m not trying to lose weight, it’s kind of cool to see the calories burned after a workout. It’s a nice cushion to see when you’re trying to splurge on a fun meal.

If you don’t already exercise and are hoping this will motivate you to do so, I think it’s kind of a lot of money to spend! I would recommend that you make yourself work out consistently for one month and then reward yourself with this device. I absolutely love it.

UPDATE (04/14/2015) –

As promised, here is an update on the Polar A300. AWESOMENESS! The watch gives me a daily caloric burn and I was burning a lot less than I thought I was (guess I know why the weight wasn’t just melting off – ha!). I’ll come back with more updates for CONS/PROS/TIDBITS as I come across them. Thanks for reading and kudos for making a healthier lifestyle for yourself!! We can do this! 😉

PROS –

1. Battery life is fantastic! Maybe because I’m so used to tablets and phones that needs to be charged on a daily basis, this watch has gone about a month for me and not needed a charge! I ended up charging it on my own when I saw the battery bar low, still didn’t get a “low batt” signal, just charged it and at the same time updated everything on my FLOW desktop app.

2. Phone FLOW app is a great tool. You can see how many steps you take in a day. I try to hit 10K steps a day. It also logs your sleep and show you just how much RESTFUL sleep you are really getting. How does it do it? Magic. LOL. I don’t know but I think by using this tool, I can better incorporate what it tells me towards my path to better health. As mentioned before I try to hit 10K steps a day, incorporate cardio exercise daily and I really need to get more sleep! This watch and app helps me focus on these goals. It also tells me how many calories I burn in a day, which is great for keeping me on track with my food intake to make sure calories eaten are less than calories burned. Also the app will show you how far you are to hit 100% activity level for the day, if you are at 83% for example, it will give you suggestions on what you can do to hit 100%, like 14 minutes of jump rope or 45 minutes of walking, etc. Cool app. Downloaded for free.

3. Reminders – I am digging the reminders that pop up when I have sat for too long. My job requires me to sit for most of the day and sometimes I forget to get up and move around a little, I like that the watch vibrates and beeps for me to get up.

4. It’s smart – sometimes I want to start logging my workout and I go to the activity that I am about to engage in – AND THEN I FORGET TO ACTUALLY HIT START!! oy! But the watch will beep after a couple minutes to remind me that I have not hit start yet. Thank you watch. And then there’s those times where I accidentally hit start too soon and have to stop right away. The watch is smart enough to ask me “that was a short session – do you want to record it?” :)

5. WATERPROOF – Great for swimming and other water activities. Wore this to go snorkeling and it held up well. No problems!

CONS –

1. The watch strap is rather long, so there’s this annoying piece that sticks out at the end and I frequently get it caught when getting dressed or putting on a jacket and such. But it doesn’t bother me enough to reduce the number of stars. Would be nice if they offered different strap lengths.

2. Uber sporty in style. It’s cute when I wear it during casual days and to work out, but not when I want to wear a sundress to brunch and still track my day’s activity. Maybe I can get different color wrist bands, but they’re rather pricey for just the bands. :(

TIDBITS –

1. It isn’t necessary to wear the heart strap all day. Only wear it when you are engaged in activity/exercise. I can hear it ticking when I wear it and I assume it is using some sort of battery to function, so think about that. Unless you are actually needing it to get your heart rate while working out, save the battery and take it off when you are done with your workout.

2. I’m going to try and put the watch in a purse all day to see if it still accurately tracks my day during non-activity times. I’ve also put the watch around my jean’s belt hook to keep it on my body but not wear it, because I was wearing other bracelet accessories that day. It may not be as accurate, but it can give me a good ballpark figure of my day.

************************************************************* ORIGINAL REVIEW 3/14/2015 *************************************************************

ORIGINAL REVIEW – Just ordered this. I’ll have to come back after a period of use to update my review but for now I like the fact that this is something I can wear everyday. I originally had the FT7 but it turns out that it does not calculate calorie burn all day accurately. You can wear it all day, but the calories will not be accurate. They are extremely accurate during times of exercise, but during the day if there is an elevation in heart rate due to stress, fatigue, etc the watch will mistake it for exercise and over estimate your caloric burn. The models are not designed to give basic metabolic rate.

So I’m giving this A300 a try. There’s a short video on the Polar website that shows what you can do with it and it appears promising. It functions just like the FT7, but you CAN wear this one all day to get a calorie burn even when you are not working out. There is a reminder on there to help you stay active and you can set goals of activity levels to hit. Also, with the A300, you can not only track your activity 24/7, but you can get a personal daily activity goal, and the A300 shows your progress towards the goal by filling up an activity bar. With the Activity Menu, you can sync it to the visualized Flow app or Flow web service (included with A300). The A300 counts the steps you have taken and tells the distance covered, it shows the calories you have burned all day. You can also wear it while you sleep and it detects your sleep time and quality by checking your Flow app or Flow website. You only need to create a login to get started with Flow (app or website) and it’s free. How accurate all of this is, I cannot attest to, but I will use it as a general guide to keep me in the right direction and on track. Hopefully this can help me lose my last 10 pounds!! :) There’s also a nifty “personal motivator reminder” in which the A300 will remind you when you’ve been still for too long. :)

I’ll be back to update the review after a few weeks of usage. For now, hope this review helps you guys decide if you are debating between the FT7 and the A300 or if you are looking for something to wear all day.

OH – and the heart band strap is pretty comfortable. I wore it for nearly 24 hours and barely noticed. But that may be because women are used to wearing bras. You only need to wear the heart rate monitor during times you are engaged in an exercise/activity. Keeping my fingers crossed that this lives up to the hype!
