This balaclava is very comfortable and easy to put on. It is thin and silky material, but is stretchy and warm. I love that there are many different ways to wear it. I also have waist length hair, but I have room to where I can tuck my hair up inside if needed. My little ones laughed at me and said I looked like a ninja. My only complaint is that my glasses fog up when it’s up over my nose. I just have to keep it down a little farther. I’m happy I was able to try thus out in exchange for a review, as this is so nice to use when running in the cold weather. It keeps my face, ears, and head warm in the bitter wind.

We went skiing this weekend it was awesome the ski mask worked perfect. You didn’t get the snow cutting thru your face feeling , like u do when you just have the goggles. The material is great its easy to breath through. I think this should be sold at the resort for last items you need. The price was great I saw a different ones at sporting goods, but I really think this one is better it has a better fit.

It’s very handy that the packaging shows diagrams of a number of recommended ways to wear it – I didn’t even realize at first just how versatile it is! Breathable, lightweight material that has proven to be effective at withstanding harsh fire conditions

My boyfriend is a USFS firefighter who works on wildland fires, and he absolutely loves using this balaclava on a regular basis to protect his face against the harsh sun and winds, as well as his nose from the constant smoke in the air. This balaclava makes an effective, affordable alternative to expensive firefighter nomex hoods as it provides the necessary protection while still remaining very comfortable and lightweight. His biggest concern about the balaclava was about its material and whether it would easily and efficiently allow the air to circulate while he wears it, but he says that the material is very breathable even in the harshest of conditions.

Nomex hoods can cost hundreds of dollars, so I’m very happy that he found this to be a comparable alternative. If this balaclava can withstand harsh fire conditions, then I am sure it would be perfect for ski slopes, harsh winds, cold temperatures, and so forth. Overall, an incredible purchase.

I can hardly believe I’m saying this, but yes, this infomercial product actually does work for me. My big issue is hot flashes and they have all but vanished after taking this for a few weeks. I’m very surprised. I am experiencing one side effect, and nowhere does the company acknowledge that might even be a possibility, which is irritating. I mean, sure, tout your testimonials but be honest about what women may experience. Anyway, mine is a bit of tenderness in the, er, boobular area, but nowhere near as irritating as the hot flashes. Like many herbal products – and prescription drugs for that matter – it may not work for you, but it was worth it for me. Your friend, the biggest skeptic in all of skepticville.

Let me start my review by introducing myself. I’ve been a runner for the last 15 years. Over that time, I have ran in all sorts of different ways: long distances, sprints, interval training, trail running, beach running, hill training, etc. Because of all these phases, I’ve had lots of different needs from my equipment.

When I first started running, there wasn’t much to track and work with me as I ran. With the invention of iPhones and athletic watches, that’s all changed. The first watches were cumbersome and really not very fun to use. Luckily, programs like Run Keeper took over, and all I had to do was bring my phone… but there was a problem. The phone didn’t keep track of my heart rate (which is critical). So, I had to buy a heart-rate watch and strap to get this data. Now I was using my phone AND a watch AND a strap to get the data I wanted. Needless to say, it was a hassle and I didn’t use the setup with any consistency because it was just too much. Plus I hated the chest strap!

Enter the TomTom Runner Cardio, or what I like to call: The Holy Grail of running equipment. The specs on this watch were so good, and my expectations were so high, (I *needed* them to be!), that I was sure it wouldn’t be the solution to all my needs in one device. Well, after being sent one from TomTom, I am here to report:

It did. 

 

This truly is my running Holy Grail. Let me break it down:

1. The watch is comfortable. Even though the strap is wider than an average watch, it fits perfectly. This is in part because of the 15 different sizes available. I’m an average sized man, and I’m at 8.

2. Of course all the sizes wouldn’t mean much if it didn’t feel nice on… but it does. You don’t need to wear it tight to get results either. And did I mention there is NO CHEST STRAP?! Ha!

3. The setup was straight-forward. So straight-forward in fact, that I don’t remember much about it. I definitely entered my Name, age, weight and height.

4. The controls are ridiculously easy. There is, simply, one square button that is a navigator for all the menus. You can press up, down, left, right, and center to select. For everything! Nothing more. Did you hear that? There are no silly “hold down for three seconds” buttons. No options buried deep in menus. It’s just a simple tree that is so easy to navigate that you can do it *while* you’re running. Thank you TomTom. And, if you’re dorky (or just thorough), I’ve included the menus at the bottom of this review.

5. And this brings me to the screen: It’s simple, and easy to read. The numbers are big, thick, bright, clear, and (did I say this already?) easy to read. The readout is really sublime actually. Not much text, no blinking, no nagging, and no undecipherable icons you need to memorize. Clean and simple. No instructions needed. 

 

6. Also: Using the thumb-navigator mentioned above, this watch will give you everything you need, and more. And here’s the deal: I often want different kinds of data showing for different runs. Typically I use heart-rate zones (more on that later), but sometimes I set the screen to show Pace, Distance, Speed, Average Speed, etc. Sometimes I just want to run out for X minutes and run back. Different days, different needs, but they’re all met.

7. And finally: Heading out on a run? Here’s how it goes: Press right, Choose Run, Press right. That’s it. And there are arrows on the screen guiding you. Once you’re up and running, all the data is available via the thumb-square.

Here are the screens you can see (and navigate to easily) when you run:

Home screen: You can set three data types here. I use Heart Rate, Calories burned, and Distance. You can set others to your liking (see menus below). By pressing up, you can flip through clock time, duration, distance, speed. Avg. speed, calories. Heart rate, heart rate zone. Pushing to the right gives you a heart rate bpm bar graph of your current run, and your zone, or a zone bar graph of your current run. That’s it! Easy as pie, and even a (running) monkey could operate it.

8. And here’s what gives this watch the crown in my book. As soon as you start running, the heart rate monitor kicks in and you can immediately start to get feedback. Because I typically set my monitor on the Endure heart rate zone, it waits until I get to about 140 bpm and then it buzzes me with a target covering the whole screen. If I go too fast, it buzzes me and shows a whole-screen up-arrow. Too slow? Whole-screen down-arrow. In other words, it keeps me focused on my goal. And for me, that is currently heart-health. I especially love that I can take a break to a fast walk for a bit, but still keep my heart rate up. After about a minute or so, it will buzz me that I’ve dropped and I get back at it. It’s really a great motivator.

9. When you return and plug in your watch via USB, your data automatically uploads to TomTom MYSPORTS. Here you can see a visually appealing and easy to read/understand log of your activities. You can see your distances, durations, calories burned, pace, heart rate info, and a fantastic map of your run. You will also see your elevation gain (thank you for this!) and strides per minute too. And finally, you get to see graphs for pace, speed, elevation, heart rate and heart rate zones as well. And I know I mentioned this, but it’s all really slick and easy on the eyes. Simple, yet nice looking. They’ve definitely taken some design cues from Apple here. 

 

Other notes:

Battery life is great. It needs a charge about once a week, which is easy enough to remember. If you run in the dark like me, you can set the light to always be on. This drains the battery faster and I typically get about three hours (aka three runs) with it that way. At first, I ran with the light on all the time but if you touch the screen, the light comes on and that’s super-easy to do.

In summary, this watch really does everything I want it to do. And it does it simply, clearly, accurately, and comfortably. It’s easy to read, easy to use, and the data that I get from it has helped my runs and empowered me to make decisions that have improved my routines.

Great watch, worth the investment.

Not just a Men’s watch… I am a woman and wanted an all black edition to wear during the day as well. Looks great and performs even better. I have been running everyday with this watch for 2 weeks now. Running outside using GPS and HR monitor, racing previous runs- which is really fun and motivational. I recently used the training option based on how many calories I wanted to burn and the percentage gauge is a nice visual feature. I have had great results with the heart rate monitor so far, I have tested its accuracy by taking my pulse and comparing. I have yet to use this watch for an indoor run on a treadmill so I can’t speak to its distance accuracy but look forward to having this watch to push me further in a controlled indoor environment. Some other features I didn’t realize it had until receiving it, was the alarm. I wear the watch to bed for my early morning runs and use the alarm, that vibrates and sounds.

Great watch, worth the investment.

Great watch. Never go out running without it ever since. Only gripe, if use the heart rate monitor and Night view – battery won’t last long. Not sure either it can finish a marathon in such a mode. Other than that, it is a fantastic watch. Oh, the GPS is super fast, maybe just 3 seconds to lock-on.
