AliveCor AC-009-UA-A Heart Monitor

  • Check your ECG heart rhythm and heart rate anytime, no prescription needed, using the only heart monitor that works with AliveCor’s free mobile app called alive ECG

  • FDA-cleared, clinically tested and shown to be highly accurate in published studies

  • Instantly know if atrial fibrillation, the most common heart rhythm disturbance and a leading cause of stroke, is detected in your ECG

  • Free ECG analysis report from a U.S. board-certified cardiologist on your first recording

  • Choose to share results with your physician using email, print, PDFs or the private web dashboard for medical professionals

With the AliveCor Heart Monitor, you don’t have to be in a doctor’s office anymore to get an accurate electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) that measures the electrical activity of your heart. Instantly see your heart rate and rhythm, anywhere and anytime. Atrial Fibrillation (AF), a leading cause of stroke, is the most common heart rhythm disturbance. It affects over 140 million people worldwide, but the good news is that 3 out of 4 strokes can be prevented if detected and treated. AliveCor’s AF Detector and Normal Detector give you peace of mind, automatically and immediately detecting when your ECG is normal and if AF is detected in your ECG. It’s easy to share your ECG recordings with your doctor or request an expert professional review from a U.S. board-certified cardiologist or U.S. cardiac technician. You and your doctor can start to get a better understanding of what may be impacting your heart health. In addition to medications, you can track symptoms like palpitations and shortness of breath, habits like caffeine or alcohol consumption, and activities like exercise or sleep. The AliveCor Heart Monitor is easy to use and does not need to be connected to any probes or wires; you just hold it in your hands or on your chest. Simply rest your fingers for 30 seconds or more on the medical grade, FDA-cleared device while it is attached to or near your smartphone or tablet. It wirelessly communicates with the free AliveECG app, available in the U.S. App Store and Google Play. Your health information is password-protected and stored on secure, encrypted servers. The AliveCor Heart Monitor works with Apple iOS and most Android compatible mobile devices. Please note in this model the AliveCor Heart Monitor comes already attached to the attachment plate. On the back of the Heart Monitor, you’ll see a white strip on the attachment plate that you can peel off to adhere the AliveCor Heart Monitor to the back of your smartphone or tablet, or preferred device case. Should you ever want to detach the Heart Monitor from the attachment plate, use your thumbs to slide the Heart Monitor toward the open end of the plate.

very impressive product; a sign of things to come

Very impressive product; the single-lead device is not as accurate or detailed as a 12-lead EKG in the doctor’s office, but it seemed to accurately measure my situation and its findings were affirmed by the device in the office (even though my doc’s fellow thought it would not have enough detail to do so). Had I not had a conversation with a manufacturer’s rep before syncing it with my iPad and using it, I doubt that I would have understood how to do it; the instructions that come with it are quite thin. But the reps are very helpful, and I believe this is a good technology for home measurement of a-fib. For anyone who wants to try to understand their symptoms better between doctor’s visits, I believe this is a good device. I believe we will see more home-testing health care devices in the future; this one is a sign of things to come.

Amazing product! I’m a heart rhythm expert and I love gadgets! The ooos and ahhs from around the hospital have been fun. I expect there will be many more purchased from all who have seen it!

This band aid sized ECG unit combined with the app is a great tool for detecting Afib.

Truly Remarkable Device

A little background: I’m a 30-something physician with heart rhythm problems who has used Holter monitors, event recorders, the Zio Patch, and various telemetry boxes. This is, quite simply, an amazing little device. Just take it out of the box, download the app, allow the app to access your phone’s microphone, and away you go! It communicates with your phone (I believe) ultrasonically. No Bluetooth, so battery life is good.

Holding it in your fingertips gives you a pretty decent tracing, but it’s still prone to movement artifact, so the more you hold still, the better the results will be. I’ve found the least noisy tracings are obtained while lying down because your body is totally relaxed. You can even hold the device directly against your chest to get totally noiseless recordings. I can attest that the tracings are extremely accurate with respect to voltages, durations, and waveforms–not as good as a 12-lead EKG, but just as useful as a telemetry strip or single lead event recorder.

The app (and website) keep all of your recordings until you delete them, plus you can annotate them with symptoms or comments. Sending them via e-mail is a snap. I send my cardiologist weekly tracings. He thinks it’s cool. I also showed the device off to the EP cardiologists I work with. They were amazed that something so small and inexpensive could produce such quality tracings.

Aside from signal noise, one potential shortcoming is that it is not a continuous recorder, so if you suffer from periodic arrhythmias, you will not be able to record the electrical events that trigger them. An event recorder from your doctor is still a better choice for that. But if you feel palpitations once a month and don’t want to wear a recorder for that length of time or if you go into and out of atrial fibrillation a lot and need to know when you’re in it, this device could do you a lot of good. I’m not exaggerating when I say it could potentially save your life.

In the near future, I think countless devices like this will be released. We’ll be able to monitor not only rhythm strips, but also blood pressure, blood glucose, common labs, BACs, drug levels, and who knows what else. The Star Trek tricorder is getting closer by the day!
