Have you ever had a nightmare where you looked into a mirror and watched the skin melt off of your face? This is kind of like that.
After trying several products in an attempt to even my complexion and perhaps help make my T-zone look less like a russet potato, I stumbled across this Japanese marvel. After reading several positive reviews across multiple websites, I threw thirty dollars into the internet and received the product less than two days later, presumably delivered via techno-wizardry. My curiosity (CURE-iosity? Get it?) reached a melting point; I had to use it instantly.
The first thing you notice is the big blue ambiguous word on the bottle: Cure. If you saw this product on a shelf without researching it first, you would have no idea what it does. Is it hand-soap sponsored by Robert Smith? Is it sanitizer? Is it the cure for EVERYTHING? It also reads in small text ‘natural aqua gel’, which makes no sense. After using this product, I’m pretty sure that nothing about this product is natural. It’s the stuff of witches. Let’s squirt some into our hand, shall we?
Cure ‘Natural’ Aqua Gel is a cloudy clear color, and the consistency is that of jello when you take it out of the fridge too early (Stop being so impatient). The product claims to be 90% water; if this is to be believed, I can only assume that the remaining 10% is voodoo magic.
I pumped some into my hand and rubbed it on my face; it’s unremarkable at first. There’s no lather, no cooling or warming sensation, and no little gritty bits scratching your face, as there is in exfoliating scrubs. I’m standing there in the mirror, massaging this smooth, watery goop into my face for about fifteen seconds wondering: “What did I just spend 30 dollars on?”. Then it happens.
As I massage the gel in circles on my face, suddenly that smooth feeling under my fingers starts to get a bit… gritty. I squeeze a bit more gel on my hands and continue, thinking maybe the gel is coagulating or something. The gritty feeling intensifies, and begins to feel more like i’m massaging rice into my face, and upon leaning closer into the mirror, I have to keep myself from screaming. It’s skin. Oh god. THERE’S SKIN EVERYWHERE. I felt like a cicada shedding it’s exoskeleton; there was balls of dead skin covering every inch of my face and hands. It’s like when you were a kid and got craft glue on your hands, and got it off by rubbing them together. Except it’s skin, and it’s on your face.
I spent the next two or three minutes shouting ‘EW’ and ‘OH GOD IT’S SO GROSS’ while continuing to rub my face; by this time it due to morbid fascination rather than desiring even coverage. I eventually couldn’t stand the feeling of all the shedded skin on my face and hands anymore, so I leaned down to the sink and washed up. After drying my face, it looked like I just took off a mask; my face was clear, vibrant, soft, and squeaky clean. I put on some lotion and stared at the bottle of hoodoo magic for a bit before setting it on the counter. I’ve decided i’ll always have a bottle of this.
I have used it every two or three days for the past month; while I haven’t had the same amount of dead skin sloughing off my face as the first time, there’s always a good bit, and it’s always slightly unnerving. Since then, my face has become soft and silky, free of blemishes entirely, and has started to clear up blackheads as well. It’s as effective as it is disturbing, and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to get real results with an exfoliating product. Just be ready to be grossed out.

Oh wow. Where do I start about this product?? I wish I found it sooner. It’s not Japan’s best selling product for no reason! This is simply a gel that you rub into your skin to exfoliate it. Even after using makeup remover, cleanser, and my Mia clarisonic tool, this gel still removes a bunch of dead skin off my face that all the other stuff had failed to get rid of. It’s been two weeks now since I got CURE and I am so addicted that I use it every other day to really deep clean my face. Not only has this product helped to even and lighten my skin tone (thus fading scars), it also PREVENTS breakouts. Why do we get acne? Because our skin has a tough time shedding the dead skin, so if you’ve got a layer of dead skin mixed in with oil and dirt, your pores will get clogged. Exfoliators help to remove this dead skin layer, but many are full of harsh ingreients or microbeads that can actually irritate your skin even more. I used to use ones like St Ives apricot scrub, but over time, I realized it was too rough on my skin. Then, I tried other exfoliating fgels and creams only to find that they were ineffective at removing dead skin, only to dry out my face without exfoliating. What makes CURE aqua gel a top product is that it is not only gentle, but it WORKS.
You may be skeptical that the little white balls of stuff are from the gel clumping together. To test this out, I applied it to a plastic surface. A few little clumps formed, and I realized it was exfoliating the skin from my finger tip. Next I tried to put it on my face twice, and sure enough it did not clump up (because the first time all dead skin were already removed). I also applied it on my dad (who had just scrubed the heck out of his face with a loofah), and no dead skin balls formed. So the little balls are your dead skin cells, not the gel clumping by itself.
Overall, I recommend this for people with dry skin, acne, and scars. Try it and you will love it.

As the gel dries it rolls up into little bits/balls which look like dead skin cells, making you THINK it’s your skin being gently exfoliated. However the bits are NOT your dead skin cells, they are formed by the product. You can easily do a little experiment: Put on rubber or latex free gloves, place a small amount of product on one gloved hand and rub with the other glove hand, you’ll see the same bits form, no skin involved.

-C10-30, alkyl acrylate crosspolymer: Thickeners that when rubbed form little bits/balls with this particular formula.

-Dicocodimonium: Emulsifier
-Chloride: Type of chloride is NOT revealed
-Steartrimonium Bromide: Can’t imagine why this would be in any product for face/skin. It’s usually found in hair products. Considered a moderate hazard ingredient by the Cosmetics Database. The EWG lists warning regarding concentration limits, allergic reactions, and organ system toxicity due to animal studies that showed brain and nervous system effects and skin irritation at moderate doses and broad systematic effects at low doses. It is also considered a human toxicant by the CIR. Is ‘considered’ safe for use in hair rinse-off products and for use at concentrations of up to 0.25% in leave-on hair products. Dermal exposure is ‘considered’ safe up to 2%.

**TRUE EXFOLIATION can be achieved either mechanically by scrubbing/massaging the skin with a liquid containing small, hard particles (scrubs), also chemically by applying products containing active ingredients with a peeling effect (e.g. alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids and others).
*** MAKE YOUR OWN EXFOLIANT: Mix a little olive oil and sugar and use to exfoliate face and body. Or mix a larger amount in a pretty container and leave on your counter for convenience. Sugar is a natural preservative.
The Costco where I live has Avocado Oil in stock, which is another oil that can be used and is quite nice for mature skin
